The purpose of National Injury Prevention Day is to raise awareness about the effects of preventable and predictable injuries, as well as to educate Canadians and aid them to live long healthy lives through advocacy. Key areas of injury prevention include road safety, falls prevention, workplace safety, and child safety.

Injury is the number one cause of death for Canadians aged 1 to 44 and it costs the Canadian economy $29.4 billion a year!
48 Canadians die every day and 634 are hospitalized due to injuries.
More Canadian children are killed by preventable injury rather than disease, and more youth than all other causes combined.
75% of injury-related deaths are from unintentional causes, such as falls, car crashes and poisonings.
Falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, hospitalizations, emergency department visits and disabilities in Canada.
